Vehicle Model Identification

I really need information on the GMC trucks!  I've only built 3 that I can recall.  Most of what I build is made up of several different years by the time it gets to me so I'm no expert on exact details.

Additional vehicle information can be obtained through your VIN # located on the drivers side door jam.

The site at American Classic can provide you with information regarding the following codes:

Another similar site as American Classic's is Don Moen's Serial Number  page.

Ordering a GMC Restoration Packet for the Canadian Model

The GMC is a little more difficult to obtain information for some unknown reason.  I've found this Phone number 1 (800) 467-6853 (GM Canada Vintage Vehicles) to call and receive a similar Restoration Packet as the Chevrolets.  This packet supposedly contains information on (trim codes, paint codes, body numbers, plant of manufacture, engine size etc.,).

Unlike the Chevrolet Restoration Packet which is Free, the GMC Packet Cost is $25.00

I have not ordered a packet so I have no knowledge of how much information is provided.  If anyone has first hand knowledge on the Canadian Packet I would like to hear what it contains and if you were pleased with the information.

1954:  (Major Changes made from the 1953 Model)

****** Totally redesigned ********

The 1954 Chevrolet Truck has a totally redesigned body then all the previous years.  In fact it has very few body parts that are interchangeable with the previous years. I think the doors, rear fenders and maybe running board are the only major body panels that will interchange.  The front end is totally redesigned and the cab has a one piece curved windshield and new dash.  The running board to bed covers are also different "Narrower".  The bed has flat rails and tailgate was redesigned also.   The rear frame kick-up for the axles is also changed to allow for a lower setting bed

1955:  (Changes made from the 1954 Model)

****** 55 1st Series ********

VERY VAGUE ON THIS MODEL BUT HERE'S WHAT I KNOW
The 1955 1st Series Chevrolet Truck has a carry over from 1954 and a way to either eliminate an over load of parts or the 55 2nd series was behind schedule?

GMC MISC. INFORMATION:

GMC manufactured a long half ton in the AD years while Chevy did not.   This long half ton used the 3/4 ton box. It used the half ton torque tube rear with a little extension between it and the tranny.   Count your lug nuts, eight is 3/4 and 6 is a half ton.
